A German Sword Rapier
Late 16th/Early 17th Century

With broad sharply tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section with running wolf mark on one side, the forte on one side etched 'Wilm. Klein. In. Soling. Fecit', and 'In. Pace. Ad. Bellum. Paratvs.' on the other, the inscriptions between cross marks and within line borders with trefoil-shaped ends, recessed rectangular ricasso with cusped edges and struck on each side with a fleur-de-lys shaped bladesmith's mark, iron hilt of flattened bars comprising downcurved arms, outer lower side-ring linked to an upper diagonal scroll by an S-shaped bar between, the diagonal scroll swept-up to join the knuckle-guard with rounded terminal, inner guard of slender trifurcated bars merging into one and joining the knuckle-guard, downcurved rear quillon with rounded terminal, pommel of flattened barrel shape, and spirally-grooved grip bound with twisted iron wire
