A German Or Italian Broadsword
Mid-16th Century

With double-edged blade with shallow central fuller over most of its length on each side, iron hilt of flattened and rounded bars comprising trefoil-shaped side-guard linked to the recurved knuckle-guard by a slender scrolled side-bar, the latter with fish-tail terminal, horizontally recurved quillons with fish-tail terminals each incised with foliage, inner side-guard linked to a downcurved arm and carrying a thumb-ring, rounded pommel with a scallop shell on each side and incised with letters 'B' and 'A', and cord-bound leather-covered grip (wire binding missing, some pitting overall)
