A Venetian Schiavona
18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade with traces of incised running wolf mark on one side and faint traces of other marks on each side of the forte, characteristic iron basket guard (old brazed repairs) comprising flat radiating bars pinched-in and joined at the top to a wide flat bar pierced with chevroned trelliswork, inner-guard above a side-ring, straight rear quillon (tip missing), later shield-shaped pewter pommel with a rudimentary mask on each side, and leather-covered grip
