A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Third Quarter Of The 17th Century

With double-edged blade cut with three narrow fullers over most of its length on each side, the central one extending to the point and stamped with four decorative marks on each side at the forte, iron guard of slender rounded bars framing an S-shaped bar set sideways on both sides above an early form of 'ram's horn', saltires centred on eight-sided panels bordered by double engraved lines, and a central panel pierced with a heart below two circles and two stylised hearts, fore-guards, later truncated bun-shaped pommel, and later leather-covered wooden grip (some wear and rust patination overall)
