First Half Of The 18th Century
With broad sharply tapering blade (adapted from a sword-blade) fullered and double-edged towards the point and cut with a fuller along the back on each side, rootwood hilt of circular section carved with characteristic Celtic interlace and studs, integral plain disc-shaped pommel, plain brass mounts comprising thin slightly arched guard, brass strap over each shoulder of the hilt, and circular flat pommel-cap encircled by copper rivets and retained by a later threaded tang nut; the second of curved flattened form and carved with a stylised monster-head at the nozzle, wooden base-plug, and later wooden stopper (some damage) (2)
