visible traces of the original gold damascening decoration, including inscriptions along the edges, and floral motifs on either end, later embellishments consisting of a gilt metal central cartouche set with a carnelian seal and turquoises, padded mail mitten included set with turquoises and metal bosses

Footnotes

The inscriptions along the edge of the armguard read: Qur'an, Surah al-Baqarah (II), verse 255 and the beginning of verse 256; the Ottoman carnelian seal inscribed with the name of Muhammad.
