Persia, 19th Century

of domed form surmounted by a spike, the front with a nose guard flanked by two plume holders, the surfaces profusely incised and overlaid with gold, the decoration consisting of a band of inscription-filled cartouches around the rim, the dome with floral sprays within gold palmette borders, attached to mail neck guard

Provenance:
The private collection of H.E. Hossein Ghods-Nakhai, acquired in the 1960s. Hossein Ghods-Nakhai was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Tehran from 1961-1962, and was also Iran's Ambassador to the Holy See from 1966-1970 and an honorary president of the Iran Society from 1958-1961. He is the author of The Rubiyat of Ghods.

The inscriptions consist of Persian verses.
