A massive Mughal red sandstone Architectural Facade
Northern India, 18th Century

of rectangular form, comprising three lobed archways, carved in relief with rosettes in each top corner surrounded by leafy spandrels, applied columns with spiralling shafts and acanthus detailing and surmounted by stylised parrots, two rectangular friezes within the outer arches with central floral rosettes, disassembled
approx. 350 x 250 x 34 cm.

Acquired in India, 1969.

Please note that the assistance of a professional stonemason would be required to build the portal, which is currently in pieces.

A balcony section sharing similar features, but carved from white marble rather than red sandstone, was sold at Sotheby's Islamic and Indian Art, 29th April 1993, lot 428.
