A cinnabar lacquer box and cover

17th century
The top of the compressed-domical cover carved with a scene of five boys playing blind-man's-bluff on garden terrace, a balustrade separating them from a body of water, all framed by rocks, trees and clouds, the body of a similar shape, carved with a scene of a sage being led by an attendant carrying a bough laden with peaches along a shoreline, each scene divided into three registers by the use of different diaper patterns representing land, water and air, the interior lacquered black.
