Footnotes
These prints were produced at the Ravi Varma press in Karla-Lonavia (Malabar), circa 1910. It was the first of many lithographic presses which were established in India at the end of the 19th Century. See Castelli, E., and Aprile, G., Divine Lithography, New Delhi 2005, p. 34 and passim. The prints were marketed by Anant Shivaji Desai in the Moti Bazar, Bombay, as mentioned in the inscriptions at the foot on the images (op. cit. p. 157).
