A pair of lacquered leather Shields
Northern India, 19th Century

of circular convex form, both with four iron bosses of stylised floral design, and cushioned hand guards on reverse of each, both shields featuring a central circular panel of decoration featuring alternating palmette and flower head motifs, the outer band of decoration a repeat of this, both with wide areas of scrolling foliate grounds, one on a red reserve, the other on a green reserve, on reverse stylised rosettes and scrolling vine motifs in gold on a red ground
