A pair of grey schist Figures of Lions
probably Sultanate, India, 15th Century

of squat form on a pedestal base, one with head turned to the left, the other to the right, the lions crouched on thier hind legs, with stylised features in low relief, including bulging eyes, pricked ears, gaping mouth with lolling tongue, bared teeth and splayed claws, one lion holding its tail in its jaws, the other with the tail running up the right side of the body, each with braclets on the legs and a necklace
largest; 48 cm. long, 42 cm. high(2)
