of deep rounded form with wide everted rim, profusely inlaid in silver, the rim with a frieze of thuluth inscription with arabesque medallions, the cavetto with a band of kufic, the base with an arabesque band surrounding further thuluth, centered on a silver roundel containing a brass inlaid tughra

The thuluth inscription consists of Arabic verses; the kufic inscription, Qur'an, surah al-kawthar (CVIII), followed by: "Made by Isma'il Farran (Baker) in Egypt"; in the centre, Qur'an, surah al-Ikhlas (CXII); and the owner's name in the tughra as "Yahya ibn Muhammad Husayn".
