Footnotes

Provenance:
Kennerton Green House, near Sydney, Australia.

This pictorial tile panel was found in a stately home near Sydney belonging to a writer on garden design called Mary Abbott. In one book, Thoughts on Garden Design, she describes the influence of 'old Persian tiles' on her work. It was reported that the tiles were brought back from Persia in the saddle bags of a British military campaigner in 1799.
