An illuminated Qur'an
North India, dated AH 1145/AD 1732

Arabic manuscript on paper, 438 leaves, 14 lines to the page written in naskhi script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points written in black and red, interlinear gold decoration throughout, gold discs with central red dots between verses, inner margins ruled in red and gold, catchwords probably added later, occasional illuminated circular devices in margins, sura headings written in thuluth in white on gold panels, two double pages of illumination in colours and gold at the beginning and in the middle of the manuscript, some repairs affecting illumination, rather browned, creases, brown morocco with stamped gilt central medallions, cornerpieces and border panels, spine split and crudely repaired with adhesive tape
