rectangular, the green silk field with two applied crimson panels, the panel divided into three sections, the upper section crimson with an inscription-filled yellow-ground roundel flanked by conjoined floral swags, below a band of floral buds, the central section green with a tughra and calligrapher's signature flanked by further floral swags and a pair of pillars, below a crimson section with floral pole medallion within a border of leafy sprays, the overall outer border with a band of conjoined floral sprays, backed

In the yellow roundel:
A hadith of the Prophet

In the green band:
"And know that there is no god but The God, Muhammad the Messenger of God", ending with "Mahmud the Conqueror son of 'Abdul Hamid Khan wrote it"

The inscription states that the inscriptions were written by Sultan Mahmud II (AH 1223-55/ AD 1808-39). He was known to be a good calligrapher and there a many extant pieces that bear his signature.
