A hadith of the Prophet
In the green band:
"And know that there is no god but The God, Muhammad the Messenger of God", ending with "Mahmud the Conqueror son of 'Abdul Hamid Khan wrote it"
The inscription states that the inscriptions were written by Sultan Mahmud II (AH 1223-55/ AD 1808-39). He was known to be a good calligrapher and there a many extant pieces that bear his signature.
