embroidered in silver and gilt thread on a crimson and cream silk ground with a large central medallion filled with thuluth inscription, the corners filled with floral interlace, the border with split-palmette motifs, backed
132 x 121 cm.

Qur'an, surah al-Baqara (II), 255, and signed as: "Mahmud the Conqueror son of 'Abdul Hamid Khan wrote it".

'Abdul Hamid Khan refers to Sultan Mahmud II (AH 1223-55/ AD 1808-39).
