An Almohad partially glazed pottery Jug
Islamic Spain, 12th/ 13th Century

finely potted, of pear-shape with flaring mouth, the strap handle with a small bud thumb piece, decorated with two raised concentric lines above the neck glazed in blue, the shoulder incised with concentric lines and glazed with stellar motifs, floriated kufic inscription incised and glazed in blue and manganese purple
15.9 cm. high

The inscription consists of: "Blessing and".

A two-handled Almohad Jar decorated with green glaze was sold at Christie's, Art of the Islamic and Indian World, London, 4th April 2006, lot 76.
