Footnotes

The miniatures are as follows:
f. 18r: Khusrau hunting a lion with his companions.
f. 34r: Shirin comes across a young prince asleep on his shield on the seashore.
f. 45 r: a prince enthroned within an iwan.

The miniatures and calligraphy can be closely compared with those in another copy of Hatifi's Khusrau u Shirin, in the Royal Asiatic Society, London. The depiction of the lion and leopard in the hunting scene, and of the prince asleep on his shield are almost certainly by the same artist who worked on the present manuscript. Although both manuscripts lack colophons, it is likely that the same illuminator and calligrapher worked on both. See B. W. Robinson, Persian Paintings in the collection of the Royal Asiatic Society, London 1998, MS 244, pp. 59-63, col. pl. 24-27 on pp. 46-47.
