An engraved British powder horn for the 90th Perthshire Volunteers

The 13 1/2 inch translucent green horn with Masonic signs, the regimental badge of the 90th Perthsire Volunteers and on one side with the owner's name Josh. Barr/90 within flowering vines and above a sphinx with the legend Egypt/1801 below. The reverse with a dove carrying a laurel which encloses an oval cartouche inscribed Peace/1815 and below that 1844/This Horn Given To His Son/J.H.Barr/90. Spout relief-carved with a wide band with serrated rim. Retaining the original brass-mounted stopper. Flat wooden plug retained by brass studs.
Condition: Showing scattered minor marks.

Footnotes

Note: The 90th Perthsire Volunteer Light Infantry were raised in 1794. They served with distinction in Egypt with General Abercrombie. The regiment was amalgamated in 1881 with another Scottish regiment, the 26th Foot, the Cameronians.
