A cased English percussion revolver of Bentley type
circa 1855-60

Not serialized, .44 caliber. 4 1/2 inch octagonal, wedge-fastened barrel engraved with scrollwork, the underside with hinged loading lever. Top flat grooved for sighting. Six shot cylinder with Birmingham proofs. Scroll and border-engraved action signed J. Wilson/Maker London. Finely checkered walnut grip, the engraved buttcap with cap reservoir. Together with associated green baize-lined case, the lid with gilt leather label of William Evans. Associated accessories include a brass single cavity mold and a zinc falcon and hare powder flask. Condition: Gun: Good to very good. Metal cleaned and showing areas of pitting and generally sharp engraving. Excellent grips. Excellent case showing light marks to exterior. Flask dented.

Note: John Bentley patented revolver improvements in 1852 but soon surrendered the rights and several variations of his pistols, with the characteristic hammer cover, were produced by a number of makers, most notably Philip Webley.
