A scarce French percussion breechloading pistol by LeLyon of Paris
circa 1830

The 9 inch barrel with ten groove rifling in .49 caliber. Faceted barrel etched and engraved overall with scrollwork incorporating dragons, insects and masks, the breech with putti and demon, the front section inscribed Lelyon inventeur brevete/71 rue Richelieu a Paris. The falling breech etched with a devil mask and activated with a side lever. Adjustable rear sight. Adjustable trigger. Spur triggerguard and signed lock decorated as the barrel. Walnut half-stock, the fore-end intaglio-carved with scrollwork, the fluted grip surmounted by a panel of fluted scrollwork.
Condition: Very good. Grey metal showing some scattered minor pitting. Stock with numerous light marks and with hairline crack between breech, triggerguard and bottom of lock.
