A pair of Turkish flintlock pistols with period holster
early 19th century

Each with 8 3/4 inch three-stage .60 caliber barrel; forward sections chiseled and overlaid in silver with inscriptions, probably Koranic; breech sections overlaid in silver with scrollwork. Rounded and engraved locks marked Tno. Crudely engraved iron counterplate and triggerguard. Spurred buttcaps of low grade silver cast and chased with foliage. Full stocks with somewhat crudely carved relief, the grips inlaid with silver wire scrollwork. Together with period russet leather double holster, the front embroidered with plant forms and fitted with accessory pouch, the flap embroidered with crescent and star. Reverse fitted with two suspension straps. Pistols retain period plaited red wool suspension cord, one end attached to each grip.
Condition: Good. Metal with dark patina showing some areas of light pitting. Wood with scattered marks. One pistol missing top jaw of cock, the fore-end with small sliver missing at right front. Suspension cord broken in the center. Holster showing considerable scuffing and wear to embroidery, the straps each detached at one end.
