A continental flintlock tromblon pistol
probably French, late 18th/early 19th century

The 6 5/8 inch two-stage Damascus barrel with oval, belled muzzle and molded panels at muzzle and in front of faceted and chamfered breech section. Unmarked lock with half-cock safety. Unengraved steel furniture, the triggerguard with acorn finial. Stepped buttcap of flattened form. Full walnut stock relief-carved with scrolls framing the barrel tang, the spine inlaid with silver wire scrollwork.
Condition: Very good. Barrel has been lightly cleaned and shows generous traces of Damascus pattern. Lock with minor pitting, the half-cock safety with chipping to lower edge. Wood showing scattered marks, chipping around lockplate and restoration at buttcap.
