A Scottish flintlock screwbarrel bayonet pistol by Laing
early 19th century

The 2 3/4 inch slightly flared .49 caliber barrel engraved with serrated leaf band at the muzzle, the underside fitted with a 3 inch spring bayonet. Barrel and breech numbered 2. Birmingham proofs. Sliding triggerguard engaging the bayonet. Boxlock action engraved with panoplies of banners and drums and consecutively signed Laing and Edinburgh. Half-cock safety engaging the pan cover. Flat-sided walnut grips, spine with vacant silver escutcheon.
Condition: Very good to fine. Metal showing smooth gray/brown patina and sharp engraving. Grip with scattered small marks and 3/4" hairline crack extending from barrel tang.
