An early English brass barreled flintlock pistol by John Blanckley
late 17th century

Large bore 7 1/2 inch two-stage brass barrel; front stage with flared muzzle and engraved panels of broad leaves at muzzle and breech ends; faceted breech engraved with floral scrolls and signed I. Blanckle. (sic) Engraved tang. Rounded lock engraved with floral scrolls and signed as the barrel on the lower edge. Trigger with scrolled tip. Pierced and scrolling sideplate. Brass triggerguard with slender urn finial, the bow engraved with serpent-headed leafy scroll. Engraved hemi-spherical brass buttcap. Keyhole-shaped brass wrist escutcheon engraved with bust portrait of a pugnacious warrior. Full walnut stock.
Condition: Excellent. Engraving and markings generally very sharp throughout. Brass with minor marks. Lock with some light pitting. Stock with few minor marks and possibly replaced during period of use.
