An English silver-mounted percussion conversion screwbarrel pistol by James Freeman
second quarter 18th century

With 6 1/4 inch .62 caliber cannon barrel. Rounded action engraved with leafage and marked Freeman with London view and proof and crown over IF maker's mark. Top marked London. Bolster conversion to percussion. Hallmarked silver buttcap molded with strapwork and central blossom. Pierced, scrolling silver sideplate. Asymmetrical silver wrist escutcheon engraved with a crest: a mailed arm couped holding a spear. Walnut stock relief-carved with a shell behind the barrel tang.
Condition: Fair. Metal with dark patina and areas of light pitting. Stock with large chip to right side behind action.
