A large bore Spanish percussion pistol
second quarter 19th century

The 10 inch .65 caliber two-stage barrel with multi-faceted front section, molded and chiseled girdle and octagonal breech bearing the gold-filled maker's marks of Juan Pedro Esteva. Gold band at breech. Sighted tang, cock, lockplate and triggerguard tang all with chiseled, parcel gilt floral decoration. Madrid style lock with sear projecting through the lockplate and engaged by a projection on the front edge of the cock. Sideplate in the from of a sea dragon. Walnut stock with finely checkered wrist.
Condition: Good. Mottled grey metal showing areas of pitting and losses to gilt decoration. Wood showing scattered marks and some losses at fore-end. No ramrod.
