A Spanish percussion belt pistol
first quarter 19th century

The 5 7/8 inch .69 caliber two-stage barrel with cannon muzzle above a multi-faceted front section, molded girdle and faceted breech section, the latter inlaid in silver with leafy branches and bearing maker's stamp Angats. Patilla lock signed Torrento, possibly a conversion. Engraved brass furniture, the triggerguard bow and buttcap set with silver portrait ovals. 4 inch steel belthook. Silver wrist escutcheon cast and chased with florals and scrolls. Full stock relief-carved with acanthus leaf at the barrel tang.
Condition: Very good. Grey metal showing scattered patches of pitting. Wood with scattered light marks and cracked at underside of fore-end. No ramrod.
