A continental flintlock holster pistol
first half 18th century

The 15 1/2 inch tapered round .67 caliber barrel with sighting rib, the fluted breech with brass-filled maker's mark. Flat lockplate with grooved rim and dentate borders inscribed in an unidentified language/script, possibly Basque. Cock engraved and chased with a grotesque mask. Brass pan. Tail of pan cover chased with a dog's head. Chased and engraved iron furniture, the pierced sideplate incorporating monster-head scrolls and a grotesque lion mask; spurred buttcap with grotesque masks around, the apex with figure of a bird. Full walnut stock with relief-carved panels and scrollwork.
Condition: Good to very good. Grey metal showing some wear and scattered light pitting. Stock showing some wear, scattered marks, small filled areas and probably with restoration to fore-end.
