A silver-mounted French flintlock pistol for the eastern market
circa 1800

The 13 1/2 inch .65 caliber two-stage barrel with flared muzzle; front section with silver fore-sight framed with lightly engraved and gilt rays; molded girdle; breech section chased in high relief with flowering plants on a gilt ground. Underside signed Jean/Brosa. Lock with waterproof and gold-lined pan; lockplate signed B Dumare-/Marseille; cock, pan cover and tail of lock chased with leafy scrolls on a gilt ground. Silver furniture cast and chased with panoplies of arms and musical instruments. Full figured walnut stock.
Condition: Very good. Barrel and lock showing some light pitting. Front section of barrel with considerable wear to gilt decoration. Barrel tang screw missing. Triggerguard broken at bow/front finial juncture. Top of one buttcap spur broken and secured by a brass pin. Wood with scattered minor marks.
