A continental eastern market flintlock pistol
early 19th century

The 11 inch .65 caliber two-stage Damascus barrel with cannon muzzle and overlaid in gold with acanthus and scrollwork tracery. Lock and swan-necked cock decorated en suite. German silver furniture comprising pierced and chased counterplate with monster-headed scrolls; triggerguard with acanthus finial, the bow engraved with panoply of banners and fasces; spurred buttcap engraved with acanthus and panoplies of arms. Full stock probably of Turkish origin and relief-carved with scrollwork and panoplies.
Condition: Fine. Barrel showing strong Damascus pattern with patches of staining and light pitting.
