A continental combination hunting sword/flintlock pistol
late 18th/early 19th century

The 19 inch single edged blade fitted on the right hand side with a flintlock mechanism and .34 caliber two-stage barrel. Large brass shell cast and chased with scrollwork and a grimacing devil mask. Quillon block with short quillons and molded on both sides with leafy scrolls. Dark horn grip with fluted panels. Brass pommel cap featuring a hound and hare.
Condition: Blade and mechanism showing areas of pitting overall. Quillons shortened. Grip with light marks and pierced at the cap for a knucklebow, now missing.
