A scarce American swivel breech flintlock rifle by Conrad Horn
circa 1820-30

The 38 1/4 inch octagonal barrels with eight groove rifling in .44 caliber. Both barrels signed C. Horn at the breech. Fitted on both sides with brass ramrod thimbles, the lowermost with extensions reaching to the pans. Lock engraved with birds and plants, as is the brass counterplate. Brass furniture comprising spur triggerguard, buttplate and patchbox with pierced finial and sideplates, the cover quaintly engraved with birds in a landscape, the image oriented to the comb of the stock. Maple stock with boldly striped finish, the low cheekpiece fitted with a large brass plate retaining a touch hole pick and surmounted by a silver-plated escutcheon engraved with blossom. Original hickory ramrods.
Condition: Very good. Barrels and lock with dark age patina showing some minor pitting. Stock with few minor marks and some worn chipping above rear of sideplate.
