A brass-tacked American half-stock percussion conversion buck and ball gun
by John M. Caswell, Sr.

The 38 inch octagonal barrel in .50 caliber smoothbore. German silver fore-sight and adjustable rear. Lock with bolster conversion to percussion and signed J.M./Caswell/Warranted. Brass triggerguard and buttplate. Brass triggerguard and buttplate. Maple half-stock, the fore-end secured by a period reinforcement of brass wire. Fore-end and buttstock set with brass-headed tacks probably denoting Native American usage.
Condition: Very good. Barrel and lock with brown patina showing patches of spotting/light pitting with some heavier pitting at breech of barrel. Brass with dark age patina. Rear sight missing adjusting rest. Stock showing some light marks, chipping at rear of lock and with very dark patination. Period wooden ramrod missing 6 inches at one end.
