An American half-stock percussion rifle
mid-19th century

The 31 7/8 inch octagonal barrel with six groove rifling in .48 caliber, German silver fore-sight, German silver bands at the breech and marked on left flat Warranted Increase Twist. Unmarked back action lock. Double set triggers. German silver furniture including scrolling triggerguard, small patchbox and engraved spread eagle on cheekpiece. Varnished walnut half-stock with checkered wrist. With original hickory ramrod.
Condition: Very good. Barrel with brown patina showing some light pitting. Barrel tang and hammer showing some original black japanned finish. One barrel wedge escutcheon missing. Sound wood showing numerous light marks and chips to varnish. Ramrod missing tip.
