A Sharps Model 1874 sporting rifle

Serial no. 53610 for 1872, .44 caliber. Heavy 29 1/2 inch octagonal barrel marked Sharps Rifle Manufg. Co. Hartford Conn. Unmarked fore-sight in the style of the Lyman Hunting sight. Adjustable rear sight by R.S. Lawrence. Double set triggers. Walnut fore-end with German silver cap. Buttstock set with a rawhide reinforcement retained by brass tacks. Checkered iron buttplate. Weight: 12 lbs.
Condition: Fair to good. Barrel and action with mottled grey metal showing some minor pitting and series of small dents to left of rear sight. Sights are probably later replacements. Frame tangs showing possible restoration. Fore-end with scattered light marks and one deep bruise. Buttstock with several cracks at wrist showing old repair and 1/2" x 1/4" piece of wood missing to right of upper tang.
