Footnotes
Note: Probably Johann Friedrich George, Kassel, Hesse, 1732-49, although there are three other makers of this family with the first initial J, working at about the same time. Although unmarked except for barrel marking, the style and quality would seem to support this attribution. It has been suggested that the barrel is a period replacement and the J. George markings are for Jacob George, a Berks County, Pennsylvania gunmaker circa 1795.
