Footnotes
Note: William Russell Grace, 1828-1904, and his brother Paul emigrated from Ireland in the 1850s and set up offices in New York and Peru as ship's chandlers. The business soon expanded to import/export and offices were opened in San Francisco and London. Eventually, they owned their own fleet, the beginning of the Grace Line. Grace's business interests expanded over the years and he served as Mayor of New York City 1881-82 and 1885-86. Among other dealings the W.R. Grace company supplied some three million dollars worth of arms and war supplies to the Peruvian government, much of it purchased from Schuyler, Hartley and Graham.
See The Colt Engraving Book, second edition, by R.L. Wilson for a number of Nimschke-engraved single actions. Note serial number 27269 on page 361 for the simple but rarely seen treatment of the ejector housing. Of interest also is the double line treatment of the dot and crosshatch panels on the frame.
