A U.S. Model 1840 cavalry saber by Ames Mfg. Co.

Curved 35 3/4 inch blade marked at ricasso US/WD on one side and Ames Mfg. Co./Cabotville/1849 on the reverse. Brass three-bar hilt, the grip wrapped in leather and brass wire. Iron two ring scabbard.
Condition: Blade with mottled patina and some very minor pitting. Hilt with dark patina. Grip excellent. Scabbard showing dark patina, some light pitting and two small dents.
