Comprising: 1) Captain White's Model 1850 foot officer sword with slightly curved 31 1/2 inch Solingen-marked blade etched with US, American flags, Federal eagle, oak branches, grape vines and a riband inscribed Liberty/Union/Equality. Gilt bronze hilt of standard pattern. Fishskin and gilt wire-wrapped grip. Leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts, the throat engraved James C White. 2) Colt Model 1860 Army percussion revolver, sn. 35230, .44 caliber, triggerguard and gripstrap numbered 53821, walnut grips. 3) Captain White's family album containing some 52 cdv's of Union officers as well a scarce cdv depicting 24 officer's grouped in a nonchalant pose, evidently the officers of the 44th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia. Some 18 examples bear full or partial identification including: a) Captain White, identified in pencil on the reverse, J.W. Black, Boston. b) Quarter Master Frank Bush 44th Reg., standing portrait, ink on reverse, J.W. Black. c) Yours truly, Samuel Tolles/Lt. Col/15th C.V., bust portrait in civilian clothes, ink on reverse, Wells & Collins New Haven. d) General Edward Hinks, signed in ink Edw.W. Hinks, standing 3/4 in uniform, Brady, New York. e) Lt. T.C. Haddock, 2nd Rgt. N.Y.S.M., identified in ink on the front, full length in uniform, D. Appleton & Co, New York. f) Charles W. Dabney, signed in pencil l/f, full length in uniform, J.W. Black, Boston. Also included are 49 cdv's and two tintypes of various men, women and children, presumably members of his family.
Condition: 1) Fine blade showing some light spotting. Hilt retains perhaps 50% of hilt finish. Grip wire partially loose. Scabbard with some surface scuffing and deep bend above center mount. Mounts retain 50-60% gilt finish. 2) Poor. Mottled grey metal showing areas of pitting. Cylinder pitted overall. Replaced lever and wedge, serial numbers mismatched as noted above. Revarnished grips, the sides have been sanded. 3) Album with tears and losses to spine. Many of the photographs trimmed.

Footnotes
Note: Captain James C. White was mustered into the 44th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia as a lieutenant in 1862. This was a nine month regiment and were mustered out in June of 1863. He was then mustered in as a lieutenant in the 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery and was later promoted to Captain.
