A Highland dirk, circa 1735, biodag
circa 1735

Sharply tapered 11 inch single edged blade with 4 inch false edge and stamped on both sides below the spine with a series of eleven marks in the form of pairs of circles joined by a line and with two deeper marks at the hilt. Circular brass pommel, the upper side molded with concentric circles, the blade tang secured by a square brass nut. Hardwood grip boldly carved with Celtic interlace, the interspaces filled with wooden knobs. Sides with brass reinforcements above the hilt. Brass mount at blade with prominent lip.
Condition: Blade showing areas of light pitting and with old repair above point. Fine grip with light marks.
