A Highland dirk with bog oak grip
circa 1730

Straight 14 3/4 inch single edged blade with 6 1/2 and 2 inch fullers below the grooved spine. Fuller enclosed by a series of stamps in the form of circles, the lowermost interspersed by sickle-shaped marks. Simple brass bolster. Bog oak grip carved with Celtic interlace. Flat brass pommel cap, the lower edge cusped to enclose the top of the grip, the top incised with a border of two concentric lines. Tang secured by a star-shaped nut.
Condition: Blade showing some light pitting and wear to markings. Grip showing wear and light marks.
