A Highland ribbon hilted broadsword
second half 17th century

The 32 1/4 inch double edged blade with 9 inch fuller above the hilt. Fuller on one side marked ...I I N I... and surmounted by the running wolf mark of Solingen/Passau. Reverse marked I N V A I I N I I A and surmounted by a cruciform mark. Beaded ribbon hilt showing banded decoration. Pommel molded with plant forms, possibly roses. Fitted with what appears to be the original period wooden grip retaining copper tape wrapping and single copper Turk's head.
Condition: Showing dark patina pitted overall. Blade with numerous dents to cutting edge.
