A Scottish Highland Revival targe
mid-19th century

The circular wooden shield covered in goatskin, the front with Whitelaw's Type C decoration comprising lines of brass tacks extending from a central boss and forming a star, the enclosed panels incised with interlace, hearts and leaf scrolls. The central domed brass boss having heart-shaped cut-outs with red velour backing. Reverse fitted with leather-covered straps.
Condition: Excellent. Showing dark patina with some minor scuffing.
