A rare Irish flank officers lion pommel short saber
circa 1775-90

Curved 27 1/2 inch single edged blade with 9 inch false edge, full-length central fuller and 17 inch fuller below the spine. Gilt brass hilt comprising slotted guard, fluted knucklebow and sidebar splitting to two scrolling branches; lionhead pommel. Ribbed elephant ivory grip bound with broad silver tape flanked by narrow strands of twisted silver wire. With original black leather scabbard fitted with gilt brass throat and chape. Throat with frog stud and suspension ring and marked on the reverse in small punched dots Read Cutler/---/Par---/Dublin.
Condition: Blade showing areas of light pitting and shallow nicks to edge. Hilt retains perhaps 40% gilt finish. Grip excellent, the ivory with age patina and barking. Scabbard scuffed but sound. Throat retains 60-70% gilding. Chape with traces.
