An early Federal period naval cutlass
circa 1790-1810

Broad, slightly curved 27 inch single edged blade with deep 16 inch fuller below the spine. Broad knucklebow guard with scrolled finial and black japanned finish. One-piece fluted grip.
Condition: Blade with dark grey patina showing minor chipping to edge. Forward 17 inches of blade showing some scattered pitting, the rear section lightly pitted overall. Guard and grip retaining much japanned finish.
