A basket-hilted horseman's broadsword
18th century

Straight 36 inch blade of diamond section bearing considerable traces of engraved decoration. Glasgow-style steel hilt composed of flat, grooved bars with panels pierced with circles and arrowheads and with scalloped rims and oval rein aperture. Pommel grooved with pairs of lines. Replaced wooden grip.
Condition: Showing heavy cleaning and areas of pitting overall. Hilt showing considerable restoration.
