A silver-hilted small sword
mid-18th century

The 32 1/2 inch colichemarde blade of hollow triangular section, the forte with slight traces of engraved decoration. Silver hilt comprising bilobate guard pierced and chased with scrollwork framing circular panels of six- and eight-pointed stars, the borders cast and chased with C-scrolls and pyramidal forms; quillon block and ovoid pommel pierced and chased as the guard; quillon, knucklebow and ring decorated as the borders. Grip wrapped with plaited silver wire alternating with silver tape.
Condition: Blade with scattered light pitting. Hilt excellent.
