A silver and ivory-mounted Ottoman shamshir
19th century

Sharply curved 31 inch single edged blade decorated with five gold overlay panels on each side. Engraved silver crossguard of typical form. Marine ivory gripscales. Spine of hilt overlaid with engraved gold meander. Black pigskin-covered scabbard with long silver mounts, the rims chased with floral meander. Silver suspension mounts engraved with floral meander.
Condition: Blade showing some light pitting and minor losses to gilt decoration. Gripscales with minor age cracks. Scabbard mounts showing numerous dents. Part of languet edging on scabbard loose.
